I had an inguinal hernia in late 2022. It has been about a year since Prof Chris Berney fixed the hernia by inserting a mesh with keyhole surgery. Since then I have had no issues and the hernia and the pain have completely gone.Originally, there were some delays getting to see other surgeons; I don't think my problem was seen as high priority. We found Chris' profile online at the end of November and booked an appointment. Overall, he was very friendly and gave me a lot of opportunity to ask questions. Prof Berney was very good and rapid with the surgery plus check-up being completed prior to Christmas. It was a relief going into 2023 with everything fixed.I had cover from my private health insurance and the procedure was done at Waratah Private Hospital. Chris is slightly more expensive than some but I got a very good result and will not hesitate to contact him again if I need any future surgery for other problems.

My Father is an elderly person aged in his mid-80's & he underwent a complex procedure for major stomach surgery back in early 2022. My family were previously referred to Dr. Berney prior to knowing all about his work & we can only express our most highest regard for his expertise & quality customer care towards his Patient's & their loved ones - this is in relation to both past & present that we have spoken with. After visiting 3 other Surgeons Hernia Specialists I organised a review with Prof Berney as I had watched his procedures on YouTube and read a fair amount about him Google etc. His reviews also provided me some optimism that he could fix what other couldnāt.Previous to my visit I had provided Dr Burney with recent Ultrasound /MRI / Reports / Pathology etcā¦. I wanted him to be as informed about my condition as possible and provide me (like the others) his expert surgical assessment.My initial meeting with him was tough love -āStop smoking - lose weight and Iāll do my best to fix you !ā He was very respectful - and honest with me. He didnāt sugarcoat anything and advised me of all of the risks of this complex surgery.I believed Prof Berney was my best option of success given the 4 surgeons I had consulted. He explained his approach in detail that I could understand and took time doing so.After accepting Prof Berneyās terms I booked in for surgery.I returned to him and underwent BTI day surgery @ Waratah Private - this was pain free. I rested at home for the next 2.5 weeks, lost a little more weight and returned for the big day.Surgery day came around quickly and I couldnāt wait- Botox had done its job and back was killing me - tummy wax like jelly.I underwent a 5 hr plus marathon procedure - Laparoscopic/open extensive adhesiolysis (cutting & removing Adhesions), with mesh repair of incision hernia, partial excision of old mesh, neurovascular flap repair - rejoin rectus muscles etcā¦..Operation was problematic as I had extensive intra-abdominal adhesions with small bowl loops, transverse colon and greater omentum plastered against my abdominal wall. 15 x 9 cm incarcerated recurrent Hernia successfully repaired - previous abdominal scar excised and new mesh secured.Abdomen all sutured up and may allow me future Baywatch / Bondi rescue appearances ?? Honestly the scar is better than Iād expected - 100% better than before.I remained in hospital under Prof Berney/ Dr Moollanās watchful care. Absolutely minimal pain if any experienced throughout.Post surgery 2 months (wearing Binder), Iāve had my 2nd review and all going very well and I have gone from a 2XL to wearing a Large pair of trousers. I can bend / twist move, walk pain free. Tummy is firming up due to the Botox wearing off.Thank you Prof Berney / Dr Moolan and Dr Leggett for agreeing to conduct surgery on my broken body. You have not only delivered but exceeded my expectations- thank-you for taking away the pain, cramps and sleepiness nights.

I have been patient of Dr Berney for about 20 months. I had a paraoesophageal Hiatus Hernia; with no symptoms or pain just low iron count.I had it repaired 16 months ago, experienced no pain after the surgery and was allowed home on the fourth day after the surgery.Dr Berney has very good communication skills, explained everything and when speaking to my son after the surgery was very informative about how the surgery went.He is a very experienced surgeon, and he follows-up the surgery with regular check-ups. I was in good hands.I would not hesitate to recommend him.

My wife was in Bankstown hospital following a severe gallbladder attack. She was admitted under Dr Berney and after being in hospital for a week she did not want to have the gallbladder removed straight away and so she went on to a waiting list. She had a few more mild attacks and was then able to have the gallbladder removal surgery. She was very grateful to Dr Berney for fast-tracking her operation after waiting for close to three months. The operation went very well without any complications and was discharged the following morning. She recovered very quickly and hardly had to use any pain killers. Two days later she was in the club enjoying food that she was unable to eat prior to the gallbladder surgery. She was very thankful to Dr Berney for his skill and ability and that there was no scarring.

I am a 78-year old male who recently underwent surgery for two hernias using laparoscopic or keyhole surgery by Dr. Chris Berney. The operation was minimally invasive using 3 very small holes in the abdomen which healed within a week with outstanding results - I was back playing golf within a month and experienced no pain from the procedure. I stayed only one night in hospital and was home the day after the surgery. I highly commend Dr. Berney to anyone needing surgery for a hernia and am testimony to the fact that laparoscopic surgery is suitable for healthy older individuals for the repair of hernias.Patrick Mannix

Dr Berney is the absolute best in his field his skills, kindness and care is phenomenal and I canāt thank him enough for fixing my dad. He operated on my 75 year old father who had a complex hernia on his stomach (15x21cm) with absolute precision and care. My father had waited in a rural hospital for over 2 years for the procedure, when it came time, they realised it was too large and dangerous to undergo in a country hospital. My dad was then referred to a private doctor who quoted him over $50k for the surgery as an out of pocket fee. Desperate for a better outcome, I did some research and called Dr Berney. I can honestly say it was the best decision of my life. Dr Berney is extremely knowledgeable, honest , efficient and highly skilled. The team is fantastic at communicating all the steps and procedures leading up to surgery. The hospital provided excellent care during the surgery considering the size of the hernia. After care was exceptional. Dr Berney is a master craftsman and I cannot recommend him enough for someone that you love.

After being hospitalized 5 times and seeing another gastrointestinal Dr I went to Prof Berney after he had operated on my Mum years earlier . Boy am I glad that I did . Every Dr I'd seen in the past 12 months were unable to help me and didn't know how to help me . Within 5 mins of talking with Prof Berney for the first time he knew exactly what needed to be done .Prof Berney performed a colectomy and fixed what no-one else could . I ended up spending 6 weeks in hospital , not due to surgical complications in any way , Prof Berney was there every day and did everything he had to to get me back on my feet .This is one specialist who actually CARE'S. My name is Carolyn Adams, I am a 75year old woman of a solid build, and I consulted Dr. Chris Berney for symptoms of an inguinal hernia.Dr. Berney operated laparoscopically on my hernia. My recovery was rapid with no complications. In fact I was back leading my normal life within a very short time and within five weeks went on an adventure cruise to a remote area of the Kimberly. Towards the end of 2022 I was referred to Dr Berney for a hernia problem and arrangements were made for an operation which had to be rescheduled to early 2023 due to contracting Covid. Just before Xmas I experienced some abdominal pain and thinking it was hernia related, contacted Dr Berney who suggested I have an abdominal scan. Long story short, it was appendicitis and Dr Berney squeezed me into his list and operated the following day. Dr Berney explained after that the operation had some complications which he managed to overcome. Subsequently in February I had the hernia operation which went smoothly. Dr Berney's professional skills gave me an outcome for which I and my family were 100% satisfied and very grateful. He is also extremely approachable with a knack of explaining complicated medical issues in a way that you can understand. I cannot recommend Dr Berney more highly enough.

Iām a 75 year old man. I was referred to Prof Berney after being offered open surgery for a hernia that was increasing in size alarmingly. I was told that open surgery was preferred for older men but I wanted to opt for lapiscopic surgery. Prof Berney explained the advantages of key hole surgery for hernia repair and was able to put me his list the following week. The surgery was accomplished with the minimum of fuss, for me, though clearly with great skill by Prof Berney as I recovered with only minor discomfort in the first week. Itās now six weeks since the operation and I am not aware of any pain or discomfort at all and have resumed my full exercise regime of swimming, walking, running and weight training.

2023 - Recently I had an umbilical hernia fixed by Prof Berney. I know this is routine surgery, however I was petrified. Prof Berney took the time and explained everything to me, and through the whole experience both himself and his team are extremely accommodating. He really cares for his patient's. I can not recommend enough. As for my surgery, it went really well. I was up and about a few days after and back to normal activities within a week. It's not often you get someone as genuine as Prof Berney. 5 star.

Prof Berney successfully repaired three of my hernia problems of different kinds and in different bodily locations over several years, in spite of great difficulties posed by a congenital medical condition. The surgery was sometimes very complex, but he rose to the challenge on every occasion, even using special surgical methods he had developed. Dr Chris Berney has given me a new life. I suffered from extreme reflux for many years and was told I had a hiatus hernia and to take medication for it. When after 20 years I was on such high doses of meds and was short of breath, and low in iron ( due to a bleeding esophagus). I went to see Dr Berney, I was really stressed about the surgery and even said to him and his team don't let me die. After approx. 4 hr plus surgery I was with no pain and was home in 3 days. My stomach issues have gone and I have had 2 follow up gastroscopies and my hiatus hernia surgery has made such a great difference in my life. Dr Berney is very caring and will to listen, he even answered my call from icu when I was uncertain about something he has said on his daily visit.

I visited Dr. Berney late December and he referred me to another doctor. His receptionist meant to provide me referral later on the day. Due to her work load, she said that it will be faxed directly to other doctor and till now it has not been faxed. I had to call both surgery room back and forth to several time and I am still waiting for letter to arrange appointment. The receptionist is very incompetent and lame excuses. Additionally, no apologies for the inconvenience caused and spoke to me in an attitude tone. Seriously!! How hard is it to do her required duties in timely manner??😡😡

I have had many hospital admissions during the last 4 years due to my diabetes/thyroid issues, however, this year I had an added complication of a small bowel obstruction.After seeing numerous Gastroenterologist Registrars/Doctors, all of whom enter the room with a posse of students for them to sprout my symptoms and tell me they are looking into it, but not actually talking to me as a person, more so as one more patient to tick off their list of To Do items, in walked Professor Berney - my saviour!!!Professor Berney was from the very beginning the first (apart from my Endocrinologist) whom spoke to me like a real person and actually actively listened to me regarding my symptoms and concerns. I cannot express how calming and soothing he was.He too did not have all the answers at that given moment, but I felt safe knowing I was under his care. After a Double Balloon Colonscopy was completed and another hospital admission with small bowel obstruction complication, Professor Berney completed a small bowel re-section.Yet again, he was reassuring and I felt like I was in an expert's care. The surgery and follow up have gone without any further complications and all issues are now resolved.I honesly cannot speak more highly of Professor Berney. All of this professionalism, skill, personality and he is so handsome to boot!!! What more could you ask for?Thank you, thank you, thank you Professor Berney from the bottom of my heart.

I had an inguinal hernia in late 2022. It has been about a year since Prof Chris Berney fixed the hernia by inserting a mesh with keyhole surgery. Since then I have had no issues and the hernia and the pain have completely gone.Originally, there were some delays getting to see other surgeons; I don't think my problem was seen as high priority. We found Chris' profile online at the end of November and booked an appointment. Overall, he was very friendly and gave me a lot of opportunity to ask questions. Prof Berney was very good and rapid with the surgery plus check-up being completed prior to Christmas. It was a relief going into 2023 with everything fixed.I had cover from my private health insurance and the procedure was done at Waratah Private Hospital. Chris is slightly more expensive than some but I got a very good result and will not hesitate to contact him again if I need any future surgery for other problems.

After visiting 3 other Surgeons Hernia Specialists I organised a review with Prof Berney as I had watched his procedures on YouTube and read a fair amount about him Google etc. His reviews also provided me some optimism that he could fix what other couldnāt.Previous to my visit I had provided Dr Burney with recent Ultrasound /MRI / Reports / Pathology etcā¦. I wanted him to be as informed about my condition as possible and provide me (like the others) his expert surgical assessment.My initial meeting with him was tough love -āStop smoking - lose weight and Iāll do my best to fix you !ā He was very respectful - and honest with me. He didnāt sugarcoat anything and advised me of all of the risks of this complex surgery.I believed Prof Berney was my best option of success given the 4 surgeons I had consulted. He explained his approach in detail that I could understand and took time doing so.After accepting Prof Berneyās terms I booked in for surgery.I returned to him and underwent BTI day surgery @ Waratah Private - this was pain free. I rested at home for the next 2.5 weeks, lost a little more weight and returned for the big day.Surgery day came around quickly and I couldnāt wait- Botox had done its job and back was killing me - tummy wax like jelly.I underwent a 5 hr plus marathon procedure - Laparoscopic/open extensive adhesiolysis (cutting & removing Adhesions), with mesh repair of incision hernia, partial excision of old mesh, neurovascular flap repair - rejoin rectus muscles etcā¦..Operation was problematic as I had extensive intra-abdominal adhesions with small bowl loops, transverse colon and greater omentum plastered against my abdominal wall. 15 x 9 cm incarcerated recurrent Hernia successfully repaired - previous abdominal scar excised and new mesh secured.Abdomen all sutured up and may allow me future Baywatch / Bondi rescue appearances ?? Honestly the scar is better than Iād expected - 100% better than before.I remained in hospital under Prof Berney/ Dr Moollanās watchful care. Absolutely minimal pain if any experienced throughout.Post surgery 2 months (wearing Binder), Iāve had my 2nd review and all going very well and I have gone from a 2XL to wearing a Large pair of trousers. I can bend / twist move, walk pain free. Tummy is firming up due to the Botox wearing off.Thank you Prof Berney / Dr Moolan and Dr Leggett for agreeing to conduct surgery on my broken body. You have not only delivered but exceeded my expectations- thank-you for taking away the pain, cramps and sleepiness nights.

My wife was in Bankstown hospital following a severe gallbladder attack. She was admitted under Dr Berney and after being in hospital for a week she did not want to have the gallbladder removed straight away and so she went on to a waiting list. She had a few more mild attacks and was then able to have the gallbladder removal surgery. She was very grateful to Dr Berney for fast-tracking her operation after waiting for close to three months. The operation went very well without any complications and was discharged the following morning. She recovered very quickly and hardly had to use any pain killers. Two days later she was in the club enjoying food that she was unable to eat prior to the gallbladder surgery. She was very thankful to Dr Berney for his skill and ability and that there was no scarring.

The operation was minimally invasive using 3 very small holes in the abdomen which healed within a week with outstanding results - I was back playing golf within a month and experienced no pain from the procedure. Towards the end of 2022 I was referred to Dr Berney for a hernia problem and arrangements were made for an operation which had to be rescheduled to early 2023 due to contracting Covid. Just before Xmas I experienced some abdominal pain and thinking it was hernia related, contacted Dr Berney who suggested I have an abdominal scan. Long story short, it was appendicitis and Dr Berney squeezed me into his list and operated the following day. Iām a 75 year old man. I was referred to Prof Berney after being offered open surgery for a hernia that was increasing in size alarmingly. I was told that open surgery was preferred for older men but I wanted to opt for lapiscopic surgery. Prof Berney explained the advantages of key hole surgery for hernia repair and was able to put me his list the following week. The surgery was accomplished with the minimum of fuss, for me, though clearly with great skill by Prof Berney as I recovered with only minor discomfort in the first week. Dr Chris Berney has given me a new life. I suffered from extreme reflux for many years and was told I had a hiatus hernia and to take medication for it. When after 20 years I was on such high doses of meds and was short of breath, and low in iron ( due to a bleeding esophagus). I went to see Dr Berney, I was really stressed about the surgery and even said to him and his team don't let me die. After approx. 4 hr plus surgery I was with no pain and was home in 3 days. My stomach issues have gone and I have had 2 follow up gastroscopies and my hiatus hernia surgery has made such a great difference in my life. Dr Berney is very caring and will to listen, he even answered my call from icu when I was uncertain about something he has said on his daily visit.

I visited Dr. Berney late December and he referred me to another doctor. His receptionist meant to provide me referral later on the day. Due to her work load, she said that it will be faxed directly to other doctor and till now it has not been faxed. I had to call both surgery room back and forth to several time and I am still waiting for letter to arrange appointment. The receptionist is very incompetent and lame excuses. Additionally, no apologies for the inconvenience caused and spoke to me in an attitude tone. Seriously!! How hard is it to do her required duties in timely manner??😡😡

I have had many hospital admissions during the last 4 years due to my diabetes/thyroid issues, however, this year I had an added complication of a small bowel obstruction.After seeing numerous Gastroenterologist Registrars/Doctors, all of whom enter the room with a posse of students for them to sprout my symptoms and tell me they are looking into it, but not actually talking to me as a person, more so as one more patient to tick off their list of To Do items, in walked Professor Berney - my saviour!!!Professor Berney was from the very beginning the first (apart from my Endocrinologist) whom spoke to me like a real person and actually actively listened to me regarding my symptoms and concerns. I cannot express how calming and soothing he was.He too did not have all the answers at that given moment, but I felt safe knowing I was under his care. After a Double Balloon Colonscopy was completed and another hospital admission with small bowel obstruction complication, Professor Berney completed a small bowel re-section.Yet again, he was reassuring and I felt like I was in an expert's care. The surgery and follow up have gone without any further complications and all issues are now resolved.I honesly cannot speak more highly of Professor Berney.
